am i a Diether Ocampo-fan now?*gasps*(toycon day 2)
I never thought that there will come a day that I’d call myself a Diether Ocampo-fan. I never watched ay of his movies nor watched any of the tele-seryes which he starred in. All I know is that I really like his character from the now-defunct weekend teen show, Gimik. I can still remember how many heated debates I’ve got myself into against the T.G.I.S. fans back then.
It all happened one Sunday afternoon, inside the Megatrade hall Office. I could feel the heat inside the air-conditioned mall as I walked endlessly back and forth in assisting the coordinators and contestants of the 6th Annual Toys and Collectibles Convention 2007. Sir Vic, one of the coordinators, asked me to join him in the office to help him sort out the prizes to be given away for the winners. As we were discussing, someone walked inside the office. I did not notice that it was Diether! I was aware that someone caught Sir Vic‘s attention because he stopped talking. It was hard not to notice because I was writing down his instructions. I turned to see what caught his attention; hoping that whatever it was would go away so we could finish our conversation and I could go back and do my duty as a marshal for the cosplay event. Like a movie scene, I stared up at him. I didn’t recognize him at first. I frowned at him and asked myself, I’ve seen this guy before! And then he gave me his famous boyish-smile. OH MY GOD! This is Diether! OMG! Diether Ocampo right in front of me! He must have realized that I finally recognized him. He took his seat on the couch adjacent to my chair.
Sir Vic told me that Diether was one of the casts of Rounin that would be visiting the Rounin booth that day. I didn’t pay heed to what he was telling me and blurted out to him, “Si Diether, nakaupo malapit sa atin!” Diether must have heard me because he turned his eyes towards us while he was talking to his friend. Luckily, I always brought my digicam with me that day. This is my chance to do my cam-whoring session with Diether, I told myself. It’s now or never!
“Sir Vic, pa-picture muna ako ha?” Then I got out of my chair and asked Diether’s friend to have my picture taken with him. But I asked Diether first, if it’s okay with him. He smiled at me and said yes! OMG! If that was not an OMG moment of my life, then I don’t know what OMG moment is. I noticed that Diether put his arm behind my shoulder. After one shot was taken, I asked her to do another one. I don’t care if she thought I was shameless, brazen woman taking advantage of her kindness. Well, maybe I was.
Then the other casts of Rounin series came inside. I noticed that a large crowd has already gathered outside. I feel like the providence spirit was above me because I was there with the cast of Rounin, especially Diether, and they were not. OMG!!!
As the media people were interviewing them, I was thinking of a way so I could have my picture taken with the three of them (Deither Ocampo, Melissa Ricks and AJ Dee). As soon as the interview was finished, I approached them and gave them a nervous smile and said, “Pwede magpa-picture?” Diether Ocampo, blessed his pure heart, said yes. I asked Diether’s friend once more to have my picture taken with the three of them. I pushed my luck to the limit and asked Diether if I could have another photo-op with him once more. Guess you know what his answer was! I said thank you with hearts on my eyes. He must have realized I was drooling because he said his goodbyes. Well, that was the end of my OMG moment. Short as it was, I’ve learned a valuable lesson: Never shy out in front of a celebrity photo session opportunity. Or else!
Nico couldn’t erase the smile on my face the whole day.
