What a half-year it was! A lot of you might not care, but as a person whose daily task is reading the news, let me share you some highlights of the past six months that rendered us shocked, infuriated, annoyed and pissed us off. However, some left us amazed. Take a look.
Election- LOL. Storm has ended and another one will begin. From the carnival show of candidates to the controversial Maguindanao election (that never was). It’s a relief that the Filipino voters realized that no good thing will come out if they voted any of the celebrity politician-wannabes. And now that the dubious results are out, which nobody from COMELEC seems to mind though, officials are proclaimed. BEWARE. The newly set of elected public officials are set on recovering what they have lost during the campaign period. Spending large chunk of money just to have a seat on the most coveted position which pays a meager amount compared to what they have spent- do the math.
Miss Universe Pageant- Wow. Who would have thought that Ms. Riyo Mori from Japan would win? And Ms. USA Rachel Smith, who made a fallen-superpower skit during the evening gown competition, would trip her way to Final Five? Or Ms. Mexico would wear a bloody original national costume-dress decorated with images of rebels who were shot during Cristero war plus a bullet studded belt to boot! Too bad the pageant owners asked her to change her outfit. And what do you know? Due to the relentless support of gay community for the Philippine representative Ana Licaros, she won the Ms. Photogenic Award. Make it three times in a row for our country. Superkudos to the online voters and texters!
NBA- Wohoo!! That’s basketball for you, King James LeBron! San Antonio Spurs won! While the San Antonio Spurs’ billboard only shows the words: Team is Everything- with no pictures of Tim Duncan and any of the team players, Cleveland Ohio has a massive billboard showing LeBron making his famous dunk. In the dreadful series of losses of the Cavaliers during the championship, LeBron reportedly accomplished one dunk. I wonder what that would make of his career. I mean, he has endorsed a lot of products. J Ladies and gentlemen, this only shows that teamwork is strategically better than a notable superstar. Quoting an old adage: Together we stand, divided we fall.
Pinoy Big Brother Season 2- As the reality show, which centers on voyeurism, nears its end, a lot of viewers has expressed their disappointment and angry comments on what’s happening inside Kuya’s house. First, Big Brother has chosen his 14 good-looking housemates to stay inside the house. (With one exception. I think this goes without saying that the management doesn’t want to be told that they are biased. But they are.) Second, the nice and friendly image of the house turned slutty when the show turned out to be a matchmaking game for Kuya. In short, he turned his house into a whore-house! Okay, I know whore is such a strong word, but those who disagree with me, watch the show closely. And tell me there’s nothing wrong inside the house. I admit I do not religiously watch this, but every time I found myself watching it, I feel so disgusted with the housemates. Especially Wendy. (To those Wendy-fans reading, this is your chance to turn around and walk away). I’ve been curious for a long time why my friend was ranting about her. And it turned out, not only her. Part of my job is to read the daily news, so I can’t skip out the Entertainment section, can I? It says that Wendy has already been nominated only to have her back again on the show because she’s so attention-getter (which is what the TV network would want on any of their shows). She cries every time Big Brother would ask her to do a simple task. Even if they’re playing, she cries! Just because you’re afraid of the rat (I don’t know if it was a snake or a rat) doesn’t mean you have to go hysterical on TV! *That’s the sick part of reality shows-nobody want to see a girl who is obviously overacting!* You have to make a distinction of what is private or what is internal and what is public. Every viewers has heir own set of values. You have to be responsible enough when to know that you’re stepping out of the boundaries. And Wendy was included on BIG 4?! When it has always been 2 girls and 2 boys? Now it’s became 3 girls and 1 boy? And just to assure us viewers, they even hired SGV to audit the votes! Ha! Like as if we would believe that crap. The integrity of the network is in question, but who cares? Just as long as they’re running a good-show (good-show for them is defined as having bad reviews about the show, with negative comments and Wendy as a housemate who has no breeding, talking nonsense and crying all the time). *sighs* It’s no brainer that these reality-show contestants will have their own stint on TV. It’s like Star Circle Quest which has a sick level no. 5 (5 being the highest).

Kris-James-Hope scandal- Oh, who would ever forget the crying figure of Kris while airing their dirty laundry for the entire world to see? Like how she hurl hurtful and insulting words to Hope, naming her as a home-wrecker where in fact not too long ago she did the same when she had a relationship with Joey Marquez. And how James, looking pitiful while Kris was berating her on national television? And how Hope, in the midst of the scandal, turned mum about it? And still, Kris is not done talking!

Ylmaz- Guttierez marriage spat- I loved this one. I am sure as hell you did too. Ruffa aired their marriage trouble and asked everyone to respect her privacy. Ylmaz retorted and said a lot of things against her. And he took them back. Confused? A lot of us were. But wait. Thi subject raised a lot of eyebrows when it became a national security issue. Ruffa had a 2 (I think it was 3) policeman cum bodyguards with her. She even instigated the fact she was a battered wife when she was still with Ylmaz in Istanbul. Look how the Gabriella group backed her up. Those who care, raise you hands. The fact that Gretchen and John kissed and their photos are everywhere didn’t nearly eclipse this issue. I wonder what’s going on inside Gretchen’s head though? Did she really like the intrigue around her enough to do such a thing? Why can’t she just strut around with her Valentino wardrobe and lave us alone?

The fall of the notorious- Lindsay Lohan was sent back to rehab twice. She was seen drunk inside her car and she seems to be drooling at that time. Not good for the young actress. Britney Spears, after spending nights of partying with Paris and showing s her privates, returned to rehab and was out after a couple of weeks. She shaved her head and told us she just hit rock bottom since her divorce with Kevin Federline. (Kevin who?) Paris Hilton. Two words that would scare sane people away. We’ve been hearing a lot about her. Paris was sent to prison for cases of drunken driving and driving with a suspended license. She was out for a day but was sent back again in hysterics. Kudos for the judge who sent her back to prison. Although personally I think 23 days in jail was not enough for her. Now that she’s out (I really pity the people who lives near her neighborhood), she got a spot on Larry King’ show? It’s amazing how media swarm around her like shark. There’s not a day sine last month I haven’t read her name on a newspaper. Argh! Guess I can’t blame the newscaster who ripped her script after learning it was still about Paris. Look on the effect she has on people?
I have to stop now. I can almost feel my head weightless. OCCUPATIONAL HAZARD: Too much mental garbage with all the excessive newspaper reading.

Ive been meaning to read this and just never got a chance. Its an issue that Im incredibly interested in, I just started reading and Im glad I did.
